Active Release Technique (ART) is a highly focused clinical approach that specifically addresses injuries of the muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. These tissues can be injured due to repetitive strain, overuse, poor posture or trauma.
As a result, scar tissue can form in these areas resulting in shortening of the muscle, adhesions, lack of proper movement and pain. The doctor identifies the structures that have been damaged, and while applying specific pressure, gently moves the muscle from a shortened position to a lengthened position. This technique helps to reduce and remove the scar tissue and muscle adhesions that have been formed. The goal of course is to reduce pain and restore normal movement.
